What the gays and lesbians are fighting is not only their opponents, but the sanctity of a sacrosanct custom. They are really fighting a battle of semantics. What you call a thing empowers that thing. The word is mightier than the sword, and that word is marriage.
Many people will support civil unions, but they will not support gay/lesbian marriages. Just as profane words have great power so too does the word marriage. We all know the power of racial or religious epithets. Don Imus learned the power of a few words. It cost him his lucrative job.
The shaved corners represent parts of the gay or lesbian persona that have to be hacked away in order to live a straight life. The most significant factor is romantic emotional attachment. While you will often hear a gay or lesbian who is married to the opposite sex profess they love their spouse, rarely will you hear them assert they were in love when they were married. It is a subtle difference, but ever so important a distinction. It is the difference between a smoke-bomb and a firework. The very definition of a lesbian or gay is someone who forms romantic attachment to the same sex.
Good Christians have been deceived by church doctrine, false teachers, and religious organization. All because these pious religious people find it easy to read the scriptures in the Bible, but they leave out the supernatural interpretations of the Holy Spirit. Too many churches ignore the Spirit of God and the truth that it reveals, because it is all about the unseen and not how you are really suppose to live your life in the concrete physical world of our existence.
Sex drive. If both spouses happen to have a low sex drive, there will be less pressure to find alternate partners. Of course, being gay is not just about sex, but rather the romantic emotional attachments derived from a same sex partner. So, even with low sex drive accounted for, the gay partner may experience a desire to form an emotional relationship outside the marriage. In some cases gay spouses are able to connect with others in the same circumstance and form non-sexual emotional relationships.
After the lawsuit was started but before the court’s decision, the college changed its health insurance policy to cover same-sex spouses.
